Robert Bowman and Jason BeDuhn
On John 8:58 and the New World Translation
In his book, Truth in Translation, author Jason BeDuhn asserted that the most accurate translation of John 8:58 is "I have been since before Abraham was born." In the summer of 2004, Christian author Robert Bowman invited Dr. BeDuhn to formally debate the translation of John 8:58 on his internet discussion board, which may be found here. Jason BeDuhn received his Master of Arts in Theological Studies from Harvard Divinity School. He received a PhD from the University of Indiana in Comparative Religious Studies. He is currently Associate Professor of Religious Studies, and Chair, Department of Humanities, Arts, and Religion Northern Arizona University. In addition to various articles and the above-mentioned book, Dr. BeDuhn has authored The Manichaean Body: In Discipline and Ritual, which won the American Academy of Religion "Best First Book" Award (History of Religions category).
Robert M. Bowman, Jr. holds a Masterís degree in Biblical Studies and Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary and is a PhD candidate at Westminster Theological Seminary. He has published over two dozen articles in such periodicals as the Christian Research Journal, Moody Monthly, Pastoral Renewal, and Areopagus Journal. He has also authored or co-authored nine books, including two that won the Gold Medallion.
